At Mitchell Canyon Staging Area on Mount Diablo
Scouts explore the habitat of local tarantulas along the north face of Mount Diablo in Mitchell Canyon. September is the time for these eight-legged, carnivorous yet docile creatures to come out of hiding in search of mates.

The hike covers a distance of 2 miles. We dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring a flashlight for peeking in burrows, some water, and the scout essentials.
